While it might not mean a lot to non X-Men fans, the announcement this week that the follow-up to Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class (2011) will be based on the Uncanny X-Men comic storyline "Days of Future Past" is very tantalising news.

Published in 1981 the two part story ran across Uncanny X-Men issues 141 and 142, and despite being over thirty years old the story is still considered one of the X-Men's very best. In a time-travelling plot X-Man Kitty Pryde / Shadowcat (the girl that can walk through walls, to those not in the know) transfers her older mind back into her younger self to warn the present day X-Men that the upcoming assassination of Senator Kelly will have grave consequences for mutant kind.
